Cigna Mental Health Resources

Few things in life are free, including addiction treatment. So, it’s important to come up with a plan for how you’re going to pay for rehab. The most cost-effective way to pay for rehab is to use your health insurance to cover it. This is because the Affordable Care Act now requires health insurance companies to provide just as much coverage for mental health and substance use disorder treatment as they do treatment for physical illnesses. This means that your health insurance will likely pay for some, if not all, of your addiction treatment programs.

The exact amount of money that your health insurance will provide for your rehab will depend on your individual plan. Cigna is one insurance company that works with certain addiction treatment centers like the North Jersey Recovery Center to provide benefits that will make paying for rehab easier on you.

What is Cigna?

Cigna is more than just a health insurance company. It’s a health and wellness life-partner. That’s because Cigna’s mission is to improve the health, wellness, and peace of mind of its members by providing affordable and high-quality health insurance policies.

This insurance provider also works to provide many insurance policy options for its members. That way it’s easier to be able to pick a policy that works for you or your workplace.

At Cigna, partnering with health providers that care about behavioral health is a priority. That’s why Cigna has partnered with over 1 million health providers to reduce opioid use amongst customers by 25%. By valuing the health, wellness, and experience of its customers, this insurance company is transforming healthcare.

Cigna Insurance Plan Benefits

Cigna makes an effort to provide flexible, cost-effective insurance plans that will benefit the life of the everyday man. As a result, Cigna insurance plans are willing to cover 100% of the cost of annual checkups, screenings, and routine immunizations when a member receives care at one of Cigna’s in-network healthcare providers. This is just one incentive to become a Cigna member and receive healthcare at Cigna in-network healthcare facilities.

Cigna even has its own mobile app that you can use to manage the balance of your existing accounts with them. You can also use the mobile app to locate in-network providers in your area and check on existing insurance claims. That way there are no surprises when it comes to your Cigna. To further ensure that its members receive no surprises, Cigna even has a customer phone line that members can call 24/7 to have their questions answered.

Cigna Insurance Programs and Services

Cigna Insurance Plan BenefitsAs briefly mentioned earlier, Cigna aims to provide programs and services that improve the well-being of its members. The key types of programs and services that this insurance company offers to achieve this goal are described below.

Cigna Health and Wellness Programs

Cigna offers multiple health and wellness incentivized programs. Through such programs, this insurance provider offers services such as health coaching and chronic condition support. Through services like these, Cigna also makes it easier to manage health issues. In doing so, Cigna insurance makes it easier for workplaces to remain healthy, fully-staffed, and productive.

Cigna Mental Health Resources

Cigna offers numerous mental health resources that its members can take advantage of. Many of these resources are educational in nature. Since mental health and conditions such as substance use disorders are often related, taking advantage of such mental health resources can help reduce both stress, addiction, and many other behavioral health disorder rates at a workplace. This, in turn, will only improve workplace productivity.

Behavioral Health and Employee Assistance Program (EAP)

To ensure that employees receive top-notch behavioral health benefits, Cigna provides behavioral health resources and tools through its Employee Assistance Program (EAP). That way employees can receive the help that they need to manage their life and work issues and concerns.

Cigna Insurance Medical Detox Coverage

The first step to addiction treatment is usually to attend a medical detox program. This is because medical detox rids the body of substances in a safe and medically supervised environment. Like with addiction treatment programs, medical detox isn’t free though. Thus, you’ll likely need health insurance to help pay for the costs.

One factor that will influence the cost of medical detox is the length of time of the medical detox. Another factor is the prescription medications that one must take during medical detox. To receive Cigna’s insurance coverage for medical detox, you must receive prior approval.

Cigna Insurance Addiction Treatment Coverage

To receive Cigna addiction treatment coverage at a rehab facility, you must receive prior approval to do so from the insurance company. The exact amount of addiction treatment coverage that you’ll receive as a Cigna member will depend on multiple factors.

These factors include what Cigna plan you’re under, the severity of your addiction, the medications that medical professionals have prescribed you, and the length of time of your addiction treatment program. Most Cigna insurance policies offer some level of addiction treatment program coverage though.

Cigna Inpatient Addiction Treatment Coverage

Inpatient addiction treatment is for people with very severe addictions. This is because inpatient addiction treatment is more intensive than outpatient addiction treatment. Inpatient treatment also lasts for a longer period of time than outpatient addiction treatment programs.

There are two forms of inpatient addiction treatment: standard inpatient treatment and residential inpatient treatment. Standard inpatient treatment is slightly more intensive than residential inpatient treatment.

Both standard inpatient addiction treatment and residential addiction treatment will last approximately 30 days or more though. This is a longer length of time than nearly any outpatient addiction treatment program.

Both forms of inpatient addiction treatment also require that patients receive 24/7 monitoring and live at their rehab facilities. Due to the length of time, conditions, and intensity of inpatient addiction treatment programs, they can get expensive.

As a result, one will likely need assistance from a health insurance company to pay for inpatient addiction treatment. If you have Cigna insurance, you’ll most likely receive some inpatient addiction treatment coverage. You must be pre-authorized by your Cigna insurance provider to do so though.

Cigna Insurance Outpatient Addiction Treatment Coverage

Cigna InsuranceUnlike inpatient addiction treatment, outpatient addiction treatment doesn’t require patients to live at the facilities that they’re receiving treatment at while in rehab. Outpatient addiction treatment is also less intensive than inpatient addiction treatment.

As a result, outpatient addiction treatment tends to cost less than inpatient forms of addiction treatment. Still, the cost of outpatient treatment can get high, especially if you’re attending a longer, more intensive outpatient treatment program.

The longest and most intensive outpatient addiction treatment program is partial hospitalization program treatment. This is because this form of outpatient treatment requires that patients attend rehab all-day.

The second most intensive form of outpatient addiction treatment is intensive outpatient treatment. This form of outpatient treatment requires patients to attend rehab several hours a day, several days a week.

The least intensive form of outpatient addiction treatment is standard outpatient treatment. Standard outpatient treatment occurs for only a couple of hours, once or twice a week.

Regardless of the length and severity of the outpatient addiction treatment program that one attends, one can receive health insurance coverage for it. Similar to with other forms of addiction treatment, to receive Cigna insurance coverage for an outpatient addiction treatment program you must receive prior approval from Cigna.

Cigna Coverage for Mental Disorder and Dual Diagnosis Treatment

Oftentimes, suffering from mental health disorders cause people to start abusing substances to cope. Once a person with a mental illness starts chronically abusing substances, that person will likely develop a substance use disorder on top of his or her mental illness.

When a person is suffering from a mental health disorder and a substance use disorder simultaneously, that person has a dual diagnosis disorder. To treat a dual diagnosis disorder, one must attend a dual diagnosis treatment program. This is because only dual diagnosis disorder treatment programs will simultaneously treat mental health and substance use disorders.

Like with the treatment of separate mental health and substance use disorders, if you have an insurance plan with Cigna, you’ll likely receive some coverage for your dual diagnosis treatment program. To receive dual diagnosis treatment coverage through Cigna, you must receive prior approval from your insurance provider.

The exact amount of coverage that you’ll receive for a dual diagnosis treatment program will depend on your individual Cigna health insurance plan, the severity of your condition, how long you’ll attend treatment, and the medications that you’re prescribed to take while attending dual diagnosis treatment.
