What Is Depression?
Depression disorders include Major Depressive Disorder (MDD), Persistent Depressive Disorder (Dysthymia), Bipolar Depression, and Seasonal Affective Disorder (SAD). These conditions involve ongoing sadness, low mood, or a loss of interest in activities, often accompanied by physical, emotional, and cognitive symptoms. Without treatment, depression can significantly impair work, relationships, and health.
Signs and Symptoms of Depression
Symptoms may include persistent sadness, feelings of hopelessness or emptiness, loss of interest in hobbies, changes in appetite or weight, fatigue, difficulty concentrating, irritability, sleep disturbances, and thoughts of death or suicide. Depression can also manifest physically, causing aches, pains, or digestive issues without clear medical causes.
